Thoughts on the Florida Shooting

2/25/2018

I am still lamenting the senseless killing of seventeen Florida high schoolers on Valentine’s Day.  What a tragic loss of life.

Once again, the debate rages about gun control.  If this killer had just known Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, this atrocity would have been avoided.  It really doesn’t matter how many guns he may have owned.  Loving the Lord would have precluded his action.

Yes, machine guns could well be a problem, however the bigger issue in our country is a lack of love of Jesus in the hearts of men.  We can meticulously write all the laws to outlaw guns, but there is already a law that trumps any gun law.  It is, “Thou shalt not kill.”  That law has been around for a very long time and yet people kill others with or without a gun.

In Genesis, we know there were four people; Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel.  Only four and yet, because of Cain’s heart, he found a way to kill Abel in a time when there were no guns.

I truly believe we have a spiritual issue.  You see, if we can change the hearts of men and turn them toward Christ, then all will be well.  But we all know that changing the hearts of men is difficult.  We also know that a gun control law isn’t going to stop people from killing and hurting others.  Little by little the spirit of lawlessness seems to be gaining ground.

What are we to do?  2nd Chronicles 7:14 seems to give us the answer.  “Then if my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sins and heal their land.”

What do we do?  Pray!!

By the power of the Holy Spirit, Who holds the lawless one at bay, I pray mercy upon our land…AMEN

Love in Him,
Pastor Allan
