Reflections from the Heart of Allan Redenius
Are there animals in heaven? Will my cat, my dog be in heaven?
As for animals in heaven, the Bible does talk about horses. As Elijah was walking along with Elisha in 2nd Kings 2:11, we read this amazing story. “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.” In 2nd Kings 6:17, Elisha and his servant “….saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire..” Then in Revelation 19:11 we see “….a white horse whose rider is Faithful and True.” Later in verse 14, “The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses…” We also know a dove descended from heaven when Jesus was baptized….so, wouldn’t ya think?
I can’t speak about cats, but dogs---I can only speak from experience with my own dogs. Sport, Tippy, Poncho, Buster, Kalo, Dugan were the names of all my dogs. Now if behavior and obedience is the measure by which they are judged, then they all made it into heaven, except for one. There is no way BUSTER could be judged as obedient.
After Poncho died…one of the most wonderful dogs we ever owned…we brought Buster home from the Animal Shelter. A cute, brown and white Cocker Spaniel with big brown lovable eyes. But he was a hellion in hyper speed. One day he chased the garbage truck, dumbhead. I cheered for the truck to make a sharp right turn. It never did. A stranger couldn’t pet the little guy because he would always piddle on his shoe. One day, the pastor came to our house, bent down, and yep, you guessed it. The pastor with wet shoes stood still and said, “I heard you say, ‘SPRAY!” 😊 That night, the pastor came over for dinner. When he walked through the door, he had plastic bread wrappers over his shoes. 😊 😊
After a few more shenanigans, Buster had worn out his welcome. He went back to the Animal Shelter and we traded him for another wonderful dog, Kalo. For sure, however, Buster won’t be in heaven.
I really don’t know if there are animals in heaven. I’ll leave that up to God. But I do know this about heaven from 2ndCorinthians 2:9. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Leaving it all up to God,
