Reflections from the Heart of Allan Redenius
Right now, as I write this reflection, the wind chill is about -20°.  I really don't know why they came up with wind chill factor.  After a certain point, it just can't get any colder.  By the way, do you know the difference between being hot and being cold?  Hot is uncomfortable, cold hurts.

As long as it's winter and I'm thinking of it, let me tell you about a few of my snow adventures.
  • As a young boy there was always a huge snow pile at the end of our driveway.  I was quite skilled at digging a labyrinth of tunnels in that snowbank.  With many secret entrances, I could clobber a friend with a snowball, and he never knew where it came from;
  • While Armona and I were dating, her grandmother died.  There was a blizzard on the day of her funeral, and I was sixty miles away.  Having no fear, (maybe no brains…but I was in love😊) I set out to drive the treacherous trek to attend.  The closer I got, the worse the roads became.  So finally, I got the bright idea of taking gravel roads, thinking they would not be as slick.  They were not.  What I wasn't counting on were the many snowbanks that had drifted across the road, each one getting deeper and deeper the further I went.  It kind of went like this, boom, boom, thud, stop.  No amount of spinning the wheels or rocking the car was going to get me out of this one, only hard work with my trusty corn scoop.  After scooping and scooping, I finally freed the car from its snowy prison.  About that time the road maintainer came along and opened the road.  Now why could he not have been there a half hour earlier?  To finish the story, I did make it to the church on time;
  •  Then there was the time when the roads were slushy and Armona, sitting beside me, yanked on the steering wheel to be funny.  Out of the established track the car went and this time it wasn't boom, boom, thud, stop.  It was simply, thud, stop.  Again, out came my trusty corn scoop.
So, there you have it, a few of my snowy encounters.  What have I learned over the years to combat the snow and cold?  You always need to be prepared.

Life is the same way; you need to be prepared for whatever comes your way.  It doesn't hurt to have a corn scoop along with you😊
