Ode to the Pastor's Wife

Reflections from the Heart of Allan Redenius
Early on Sunday morning, a wife says to her husband, with some gentle prodding in her voice, “Time to get up and go to church.”  The husband, laying there in the warmth of the bed, responds with, “No, I don't want to get up.  I don't want to go to church today.  Let me sleep in!”  With a little bit more assertiveness in her voice, again the wife says, “Come on!  There's not much time left.  You need to get up and go to church.”  Again, the husband retorts with, “I don't want to go.  Nobody likes me there anyway.”  Now with exasperation in her voice, she says rather loudly, “You must go to church.  You are the pastor!”  😊

Now that I've been doing this pastoring thing for a while, I've come to really appreciate a pastor's wife, especially mine!

Yes, a pastor's wife is often overlooked and underappreciated.  Here is a typical day in the life of this pastor's wife.
  1. Check the schedule early in the morning to make sure I don't miss any appointments.
  2. Have a cup of coffee with me as we read the Bible together.
  3. So that they are color coordinated, she picks out my “shirt, tie, suit.” 😊
  4. Proof whatever sermon I may have emailed to her for review during the middle of the night.  Increasingly, I'm getting up at 3:00 AM to write.
  5. In her editing process of whatever sermon or reflection I may have just written, she will often make the comment, “You can't say that!”  She keeps me from offending anyone.  So, if you are offended by what I say, it's her fault. 😊
  6. She then picks out all the music to compliment the theme of the sermon for that Sunday.  She is amazing at that!
  7. There is so much more she does, like coordinating some of the activities within the church, music and choir director, occasionally running the sound board, lending a compassionate ear to those in need, and of course there are a hundred other things.
She is the Energizer Bunny and truly is the wind beneath my wings!  You've heard of a wing man.  Armona is my wing woman.

Ode to the pastor's wife… love you honey!
