Reflections from the Heart of Allan Redenius
As of late, I read the newspaper, listen to the news, and from what I read and hear, I am sorely depressed.  Bad news!  Bad news!  Bad news!  As I analyze the bad news, there is always one common denominator.  Jesus is absent from the hearts of those who perpetrate the bad news about which the media reports.

But then should I, should you, be surprised about the bad news that we read and hear?  As the end of the age nears and the return of Christ draws nigh, Jesus warned us that the hearts of men will grow cold.  In fact, there will be a great apostasy, falling away from the truth of Jesus.  Paul writes in 2nd Thessalonians 2:3 at the inspiration of God, this warning.  “Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come (the return of Christ) unless the apostasy comes first…”

I see the apostasy happening all around.  Those who once attended church every Sunday now find an excuse not to worship.  “My kids don’t want to attend church when we’re on vacation,” or, “My kids are in sports or dance and that involves Sunday mornings.”  Oh, parents may think that they are giving their child the best opportunity for a well-rounded life.  But what's the point of having a well-rounded life if, in the end, a child loses their life because he or she never really knew Jesus?

But there is good news!  There are pockets of resistance to the great apostasy.  For those who believe in Jesus and attend church regularly, they have the Holy Spirit presence indwelling within.  They are the first line of the defense against the lawless one, who lurks on the nearby horizon, and even now sows seeds of discontent among mankind.

I for one, choose to stand in the gap and rally behind revival and against apostasy.  There should be another national holiday that we all celebrate, “Back to Church Sunday.”  What did Jesus do?  He attended worship every Sabbath!  From Luke 4:16, “….and on the Sabbath day, Jesus went into the synagogue, as was His custom.”  Whether you’re on vacation or at home, be like Jesus---go to church!

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  (Joshua 24:15)

How is it in your house?  Does your house celebrate Jesus, or the apostasy?

Love in Christ,
Pastor Allan
